T-Shirt Pre-Order!

Promotional artwork for the new Haiku Comics Zombie Buffet t-shirt by Nathan Olsen and Robert Olsen.

I am very pleased to announce that Haiku Comics is producing a zombie themed t-shirt featuring my artwork. The 4-color design references a comic strip my brother and I made last year, but the art has been significantly cleaned-up and fine-tuned. I’m really excited about this project and can’t wait to see (and wear) the final product.

If you’re interested in buying one of these t-shirts, we are currently running a pre-order and offering $3 off the regular price. We’re hoping that this price break will be enough incentive to get in some early orders so we can get a better idea as to what sizes will be popular. After all, the last thing we want to do is invest our money into mens large t-shirts, only to discover that the bulk of the orders that come in are for womens medium t-shirts.

Because we all know how popular zombies are with the ladies.

For the mens t-shirts, we will be silkscreening onto black Alstyle 1301 t-shirt blanks. I personally bought and tried on several different mens t-shirt blanks to ensure that we picked one that we could feel confident people would enjoy wearing. The Alstyle 1301 should be familiar to a lot of guys, it’s very popular with surf and skate companies.

Womens t-shirts are going to use black American Apparel 2102 t-shirt blanks. This t-shirt blank is very popular and well known, so we’re pretty sure that it will be well received as well.

Anyway, the t-shirts will ship mid-April. If you’re interested in purchasing a t-shirt, please visit the Haiku Comics online store.

I think the title says it all. This milestone is the fulfillment of a childhood dream.

More art to come soon, by the way. For now, please check out my comics: http://haikucomics.com

I have a little doodle up over on Number One, a blog devoted to all things Commander William T. Riker.

My doodle? It’s pretty awesome.

Superheroes!

A drawing of Spider-Man by Nathan Olsen.

It’s been a while since I’ve just drawn for fun. It seems like everything I do these days has to have a purpose. Last night, I had a little energy left before bed and decided to doodle for a bit.

It’s been a long time since I’ve drawn any superheroes, but for some reason I decided it might be neat to draw Spider-Man Haiku Comics-style.

Also in the notebook:

Thank You!

First shipment of prints by Nathan Olsen.

I have really appreciated all of the positive feedback I’ve been getting for my work the past few days. A big thank you to OMG Posters and NOTCOT for featuring the prints I have available for sale over at my online store.

A few orders for prints have been trickling in. The photo above is of the first batch of orders that just got sent out today. As predicted, this print has been a clear favorite. Go figure.

Now Open For Business

A drawing of LoveBot by Nathan Olsen.

It’s been a long time coming, but I’m proud to announce that I finally have an online store! For the grand opening, I’m starting out with giclée prints of three of my Lovebot illustrations. The prints come on 13″x19″ acid-free fine art paper and have an image area of 12.25″x15.5″. I brought these prints with me to APE this year and they stopped a lot of people in their tracks as they walked by our table. Especially this one. If you are at all tempted to purchase one of these prints, I promise you won’t be disappointed.

If you have any questions or concerns about the store, please let me know. Happy shopping!

Come See Me At APE Last Weekend!

Okay, I am horrible at self-promotion. In all the chaos of preparing for APE 2009 in San Francisco this past weekend, I forgot to post to the notebook that I would attending.

Or that I would be selling prints of some of my illustrations.

Photo of the Haiku Comics books that were for sale at APE 2009 in San Francisco, California.

Or that I would be doing personalized sketches for anyone who bought a copy of the new Haiku Comics book.

Or that I would be selling coffee mugs of Zombie Baby.

So, if you were in the San Francisco area and would have paid my table a visit if you had only known I was going to be there, my apologies. Mea culpa. Or, as we say in english, “My bad.”

For those of you who did stop by the table, it was a pleasure to meet you. I know there were a few people interested in purchasing prints that were not able to do so at the show – I promise to get a store up as soon as I can. In the mean time, please contact me if you’d like me to keep in touch and I’ll notify you when the store goes online.

Thank you!

I haven’t been posting to this blog much these days. If you’re interested to in seeing what I’ve been drawing lately, you really should keep an eye on Haiku Comics — I post new stuff there three times a week.

So, since I don’t have any drawings to share, I thought I’d put up a little film my wife and I created this past weekend. I think it came out pretty well. Enjoy.

Haiku Comics

Two unretouched panels from the web comic Haiku Comics drawn by Nathan Olsen and written by Robert Olsen.

I recently began work on a new project with my brother, Robert Olsen. We’ve developed a web comic called Haiku Comics. Bob writes the poems and I draw and letter the strip. It’s been a lot of fun to work on so far.

Neither of us really knows where this thing is going, so our goal is to publish a new strip every Monday, Wednesday and Friday and just see where it takes us. If you’re interested in watching the strip develop, you might want to bookmark the site or add it to your RSS feed. I’m pretty proud of the strips we’ve put out so far and I only think they are going to get better.

I have printed and assembled the first copy of my new storybook, Will Someone Open This [CENSORED] Jar? The “first printing” is a signed & numbered edition of twenty copies made using archival inks and acid-free paper.

One down, only nineteen more to go!

I’ve been meaning to put this up for a couple of weeks now. It was on display last week in the graduate advancement show at California State University, Long Beach.

A new robot and squid illustration by Nathan Olsen.

Well, after working on it for a good week-and-a-half, I think the illustration I’ve been working on is done. A week-and-a-half? I am ridiculously slow.

New Work

Sunday, August 31, 2008  |  Permalink  |  Comments [0]

Well, it’s been a rough month. After getting back from Japan, I was hit with a couple of health issues that completely blew the deadline I’d set for the animated film I’ve been working on. I’m fine now, but I’ve had to push back the completion date for the film until January of 2009. Fingers crossed.

The main reason why I’ve pushed the date so far back is that I’m back in the saddle again, so to speak. I’ve been hard at work at the drawing desk pulling together some new illustrations. I just scanned in some rough pencils tonight. Here’s what I’ll be working on tomorrow:

A rough pencil sketch for a new illustration by Nathan Olsen.

Yep, more Lovebot! He now has a nemesis, however — the dreaded Lollypop Squid. Oh boy!
