Function, Then Form  |  Tuesday, May 23, 2006

So, here’s the deal. I’ve been unsuccessful at building a website for myself for… I dunno, a decade. I’ve designed all sorts of pages, but never followed through or figured out what I was really trying to do. Or something.

Nevermind that I built an entire web company from scratch.

I have a new strategy. Instead of worrying so much about form, I’m going to focus on function. Creating content: photography, illustration, design, poetry, writing, etc. Once I have a collection of goodies on here, then I’ll figure out how to shape it.

I’ve never been good at designing “pretty” things. That is, form without function. When designing the first site application of our product at said web company, I first drafted up lengthy documents discussing what the site would do. I made diagrams. Grey box models. But that was a bit easier in a way, because I knew what the end goal was to be. But for my own personal site? I have no idea what I really want this to be or how best to communicate it.

So, let’s find out, shall we?

Sorry for all the dust. Housekeeping will be here shortly.

Welcome  |

First post! I’m very busy these days, so I have a feeling this will be under construction for a while. I’d like to get some photo galleries up first, so stay tuned.
